ABOUT US

The Church at Argenta is a fresh expression of church rooted in the Argenta Arts District of North Little Rock. We will continually hold out the promise that it is possible for humans to unite with one another, offer their individual gifts, and share a common commitment to God’s mission. If you are committed to exploring what it means to follow Jesus in this world, then do not hesitate to join us.

LEADERSHIP

Our shared leadership structure is based on mutual submission and we often trade off between lead and support roles. We share responsibility, we share authority, we share teaching, we empower believers to use their gifts and share resources. In other words, we rely on relationship rather than rules. For more on our decentralized leadership structure see Bluegrass & Leadership.

GET CONNECTED

We believe that, in addition to Jesus, people need a place to belong. Whether you consider yourself part of the emerging Argenta family, or if you’re just checking out what it looks like to live as Jesus lived, it is our desire that everyone would connect to us through one of these ways.

CORPORATE GATHERINGS

SUNDAYS, 10:30a.m
515 MAIN STREET NLR AR, 72114

During this time our entire community joins together in worship proclaiming that Jesus is Lord of all. As we hear stories and the teaching of God’s Word, we are reminded that we are not isolated but actually a part of something larger than ourselves. This causes us to respond in such a way that we become doers of God’s Word and not merely hearers.

COMMUNITY GROUPS

Community groups achieve things that are impossible in larger contexts. People need a place of support; a place where we can be encouraged; a place where we can be loved through the complexity of life. This is also a place of challenge in which others can look us in the eyes and call us out when we stumble. Both support and challenge create an intimacy and genuine depth of relationship.

WHAT TO EXPECT

For many churches, a what to expect page will describe the style of music, the dress code, and where to take your children. Nothing wrong with that, but what you can expect from The Church at Argenta is so much greater than what happens on any given Sunday.

EXPECT MISSION TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE
You should not expect to regularly come to church for just one hour, get what you need for your own personal growth and development and then leave til next Sunday.
EXPECT TO BE FREED FROM A LOT OF CRAP YOU NEVER NEEDED
You should not expect that Jesus will fit in with every consumerist capitalist assumption, lifestyle, schedule or attachment you may have adopted before coming here.
EXPECT TO BE KNOWN AND LOVED ON YOUR JOURNEY
You should not expect to be anonymous, unknown or able to disappear in this church body.
EXPECT ORGANIC SIMPLE AUTHENTIC BEAUTY
You should not expect production style excellence in all of our gatherings.
EXPECT OUR CHILDREN TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS
You should not expect a raucous children’s and youth program that functions as entertainment while parents attend church. Instead, our children are a vital part of our life, worship, and mission.
EXPECT TIMES OF CONFESSION, LAMENT, SELF-EXAMINATION, AND SILENCE
You should not expect to always feel good or ecstatic on Sunday mornings.
EXPECT SUSTENANCE FOR THE JOURNEY
You should not expect a lot of sermons that promise you God will prosper you with health, wealth, and the life you’ve always wanted.
EXPECT A LOT OF THE GATHERINGS WILL BE IN HOMES AND SITES OF MISSION
You should not expect all the meetings to happen in a church building.
EXPECT MISSION TO DRIVE THE CONVERSATION
You should not expect arguments over style of music, color of carpet, or even doctrinal outlier issues like dispensationalism or Calvinism.
EXPECT BELONGING TO TAKE SOME EFFORT
You should not expect that community comes to you. True community in Christ will mean a reshuffling of priorities for both you and your kids. Yes we know you want people to come to you, to reach out to you because you are hurting and busy. But assuming you are a follower of Christ you must learn that the answer to all those things is to enter into the practices of being the Body of Christ.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

In our church, we live with the tension of holding a “humble theology.” This means we approach the Scriptures recognizing our inadequacies as human beings to determine with 100% certainty every single thing in the Bible. Even though we live with this tension, it does not mean that we cannot make certain theological conclusions. There are many Scriptural truths and doctrines that have been held throughout the 2,000 year history of the church which we believe are central to the Christian faith.

THE TRIUNE GOD
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who know, love, and glorify one another. This one true and living God is worthy to receive all glory and adoration.
CREATION
We believe that in the beginning God created. Whether the universe was created in 6 literal days or that it was created in 6 billion years, we do not know. However, we do hold as a core essential that God created everything.
THE FALL
We believe that Adam and Eve, made in the image of God, distorted that image and forfeited his original blessedness by falling into sin through disobedience. As a result, all human beings are alienated from God, corrupted in every aspect of their being, and condemned to death apart from God’s own gracious intervention.
REDEMPTION
We believe that from all eternity God determined in grace to save guilty sinners from every tribe and language and people and nation. In love God implores all people to repent and believe in the Gospel. The Gospel is not a plan, but a person. Jesus became flesh and blood and lived among humanity as the promised Messiah of Israel. He was conceived through the Holy Spirit and was born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified, rose on the third day and ascended into heaven. On the cross he canceled the debt of sin and reconciled to God all those who believe. By his resurrection Christ Jesus was vindicated by his Father, broke the power of death, and brought everlasting life to all his people. By his ascension he has been forever exalted as Lord and has prepared a place for us to be with him. We believe that salvation is found in no one else.
GOD'S NEW PEOPLE
We believe that God’s new covenant people is manifest in local churches. The church is distinguished by her gospel message, her sacred ordinances, her mission, and, above all, by her love for God, for one another, and the world.
THE BIBLE
We believe that God has inspired the words of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments. These writings alone constitute the Word of God, utterly authoritative, without error in the original writings, complete in its revelation of his will for salvation, and sufficient for all that God requires us to believe and do.
RESTORATION OF ALL THINGS
We believe in the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. And while the Kingdom of God has already been inaugurated, we look forward to when it will be fully consummated. On that day God himself will dwell among his people making all things new.
